a project on miscarriages (xposted)

Posted by thelivingfilm on 2011.05.19 at 14:40
Hi, I'm new to the community. This might seem a bit unorthodox but I am a photographer who is currently creating a body of photographs on the topic of miscarriages as a way to educate people on their prevalence and the types of experiences that women have because of them (though I am also interested in hearing from partners too).

Also, I live in Houston so it would be great to get some participation from this community specifically because I'm local to you all! :)

If you are interested in reading a bit more about the project, please read the rest of the post after the LJ cut. Thank you. :)

Mommies in Clear Lake

Playgroups are a great way for kids to learn to socialize, share with others and be exposed to new ways of play. It’s great for Mom too! You'll meet other moms in the area and share advice and stories. We are a small playgroup so members and their children can get to know each other better and see the same faces at Playdates. This helps kids build confidence so they can build friendships. We meet every mom in person before allowing them to access the group. This ensures the privacy of our members and group information.

We offer:
~Free membership
~3-4 playdates a week
~Opportunities to build friendships for your child(ren) AND yourself
~A forum to chat about everyday life or parenting questions.
~ Coupon Train
~ Book Club

Fun things we do include:
~Potluck parties (for the entire family, not just mom & kids)
~Mom’s Night Out
~Coffee dates
~Beach/Park dates
~Venues such as The Space Center, Zoo, Libraries
~Lunch dates @ kid friendly areas
~Gathering at members homes for crafts, snacks & play time
Email us at MommiesinClearLake@gmail.com or visit https://www.bigtent.com/groups/micl and we will get back to you with information about upcoming playdates!

Miscarriage Book Project (Post #2)

Hello everyone.

I posted an entry back in September (click here to read itabout putting together an artist book about experiences from those who had experienced a miscarriage and wanted to speak about it in support of creating a visual project and educating others on miscarriage (also including stillbirth and infant death).

About a week or so ago, I sent out questionnaires in email to anyone who had responded with an email address previously. If you are one of those people and have not responded, it would be great to hear about whether you are still interested in participating. If you did not respond to the original posting, but would like to be part of this project, please email me at julie.barnofski@gmail.com and I'd love to send my questions to you. Respond to as many or little as you like.

For anyone who is participating, I really really need your responses within the next week or so. The reason is that I'm doing this project in fulfillment of one of my grad classes and it has to be completed by the beginning of December. If the project turns out to have more people interested than those that are available to respond in that time frame, I will definitely consider revamping the design of the book to include more responses (that would be sent later) and then I can produce an edition (which means multiple handmade books that are identical, since I know some people mentioned being interested in acquiring one).

Please email or comment with questions if needed. Thanks so much everyone for being so willing to let me post these requests and for those of you who are excited about participating!!

Have you experienced a miscarriage?

Posted by starryeyedart on 2007.09.12 at 17:39
I'm a graduate photography student at the University of North Texas and I'm doing a project on women who have experienced miscarriages. I know this is a touchy topic for many women but I was hoping this community would be open for me exploring it via an art project/research project that I'm currently doing in order to document the effects of miscarriages on women and families as well as raise awareness (since most people do not like to talk about them).

If you or someone you know has experienced one and is willing to talk about it, I would really love to talk to you (See project details below!).

Where do you go?

Where are some baby friendly places that you go to around houston. I have a 6 month old and I don't know whats out there.  I'm tired of being at home.

Any of you want Formula checks?

I have 3 similac formula checks. Each $5. One is for organic only, the other 2 say any kind. I was hoping to trade for some baby food coupons.

I'm Jess. I'm starting a new job this week, and I'm putting my daughter in daycare for the first time. eek! My problem is that I'm having a hard time finding a suitable place here in Missouri City (near SugarLand) that is within my budget. Every place I've called wants $135/week! I was thinking more along the lines of $70-$100 ... but NOT IN THE GHETTO!

This is really stressful for me, and I've got to choose one before Thursday.

Know of any good daycares in my area? Any help would be appriciated.
